The Nacogdoches County Mounted Patrol has started a new program to integrate new members into our  riding group.

The Adult Novice Team is an entry level group for ages sixteen and older that meets every Tuesday at 7:00 pm.  When we are preparing for

competitions, practice time for the novice group is shorter.   Everyone is welcome to participate in warm-up and cool-down time.  The Adult

Novice Team is a group that is low key and works at the pace of its members.  The majority of the drill maneuvers are done at a walk and trot.  This enables the riders and their horses to learn horsemanship skills and basic drill moves with precision and correctness.  Because there is not the

pressure of competition, this group can be relaxing and fun.  Some riders choose to stay in this group and enjoy drill team at a slower pace.  Others become ready for the higher commitment level, and choose to try out for the competition team.  With the approval of the Drill Masters, a rider may move up to the competition team for practice sessions.  When there is an opening on the team, the Drill Master will choose a position on the team for the upcoming rider.

Please feel free to visit our practice sessions anytime.  We meet at 7:00 pm at the Nacogdoches County Expo Center.
